About this tournament

Entry opens July 1, 2024.

A unique combination between the worlds of disc golf and ultra running, the Allegany County Disc Golf Club presents the inaugural Jim Buser 24 Hour Ultra Classic at Hoffman Park DGC in Frostburg, Maryland.

The event takes place on a pitch-and-putt course, on which the holes average 161 feet (longest ft, shortest 125 ft).

The event is named to pay tribute to Jim Buser, of Mineral County, W.Va. Jim is a living legend on the local disc golf scene, and a founding member of the area disc golf community. Jim has probably forgotten more about the sport than you (yes, you) will ever learn. He has been passionate about growing the game with all ages of players, volunteering his time and resources to numerous outreach and educational events.

What is the Jim Buser 24 Hour Ultra Classic?
From 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, players of all ages and abilities will complete as many rounds (of nine holes each) as possible. Players can attempt to play the entire 24 hours, or only one round just to part of an event bigger than themselves. Players can leave the course/venue at any time, and return at any time (but be sure to check in prior to starting a new round).

Complete details/rules/procedures will be included in an email to players the week leading up to event weekend.

Beneficiary
TBD

Donations
Players, fans, spectators and more - you are invited to bring any dog/cat food items for the Allegany County Animal Shelter. Let's help our "Shelter of Hope" provide for our furry friends who don't (yet) have permanent homes.

Divisions
Divisions will be based on registered players, but we're hoping for Men's and Women's categories in the following age groups:
Overall
0-9
10-13
14-17
18-29
30-39
40-49
50-plus

Go the distance?
Completing 96 nine-hole rounds will get a participant to complete 26.43 miles. An ultra marathon is anything over 26.2 miles.

Scoring
TBD

Awards
Awards within each division will include most rounds completed, best one-round score, best average (minimum a certain number of rounds), and more. Awards will be distributed three deep within each division where possible. Minimum of two players per division (players are otherwise subject to be assigned a different division).
Note: No duplication of awards (which means that if the overall winner is a 41-year-old male, that player does not also win the 40-49 age group.

Aces
Ace pot will be active. While there needs to be only one person per card for general play, there must be (at the start of the round) two or more people on a card for an ace to count. So, players shooting for aces and aiming to claim a portion of the ace pot are best served playing with at least one other card mate. The ace pot is "field-wide" - shared with all players from all divisions.

Food
Details coming soon

Lodging
Camping at Hoffman Park is available. See TD for details. Players also can return to their homes/hotels and back to the field of play as they desire.

Volunteers
Details coming soon - but volunteers are the people who will help make this event all it can be. Volunteers can sign up for six-hour shifts (and play the other 18 hours if they wish). Email [email redacted] to learn more about volunteering.

Weather
The low temperature in September in Frostburg over the past few years has ranged between 47 and 57 degrees, while the high has ranged between 66 and 77. It could be hot and humid, rainy and cold, or something else. Dress and plan accordingly.

Creature comforts
While a certain portion of a player's food and drink will be provided by the event, players should arrive rested and fueled, with plenty of food/drink favorites in their car (or in the picnic area).

Parking
Volunteers will receive prime parking. Parking map will be included in email to players the week leading up to the event.

Pets
Well-behaved dogs (and their human companions) are welcome so long as they are on their best behavior. Inappropriate conduct that disrupts the atmosphere or encroaches on another person's ability to have a fun, safe time will be asked to leave. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

Background
This event is mirrored off of the Hinson Lake 24 Hour Ultra Classic footrace in Rockingham, N.C. The TD used to live in Rockingham and participated in the event.

In 2024, the two events will be facilitated within the same 24-hour period (and same entry fee). While the runners down south will be logging miles, disc golfers will be focused on food, fun and slingin' plastic.

Refund policy

Allegany County Disc Golf Club is responsible for all refunds/cancellations. No refunds permitted on or after Sept. 1, 2024. Transfers are possible at player's burden.
